As we come out of the first lengthy cold spell of the winter – football and rugby calendars
have again experienced major disruption with the highest profile casualty being
the international rugby match between France and Ireland in Paris.
During this period of time from the week starting January 30th, the MacLeod Pitch
Protection Systems have been deployed at 7 Premiership Rugby grounds around the
country protecting LV Trophy matches and Aviva Premiership matches.
Matches at Northampton, Leicester, Worcester, Sale, Harlequins, Gloucester and Bath all
proceeded at no risk to player welfare or club income streams. Clubs,
broadcasters and sponsors alike were able to plan and maintain their schedules
with as much confidence as those stadiums with undersoil heating.
The system when fully serviced by skilled trained staff, in co-operation with venue staff,
used in a pro-active, not reactive mode, has proven itself in dawn temperatures
as low as -12. The benefits for coaches, players, spectators, sponsors, broadcasters
and financial directors are clear to see as without the service clubs would
have experienced two weeks of cancellation, and the resulting consequences had
they only had their standard frost covers as protection.
